Bóg powiedział do Jonasza, syna Amittaja: – Idź do wielkiego miasta Niniwy. Powiedz jego mieszkańcom, że źle postępują. Wiem o ich złych czynach.
God said to Jonah, son of Amittai: “Go to the great city of Nineveh. Tell its people that they are doing wrong. I know about their evil deeds.”
Jonasz jednak nie chciał tam iść. Postanowił uciec przed Bogiem do Tarszisz. Poszedł do Jafy i znalazł statek, który płynął właśnie do tego miasta. Zapłacił za podróż i wszedł na statek. Chciał popłynąć z marynarzami daleko od Boga.
Jonah, however, did not want to go there. He decided to flee from God to Tarshish. He went to Joppa and found a ship that was sailing to that city right then. He paid for the journey and boarded the ship. He wanted to sail with the sailors far away from God.
