Scene 1 · Beginner
A woman longs very much to have a child, but she cannot have one. One day she goes to a fairy and asks her for help.
«Vorrei tanto un bambino. Puoi dirmi dove trovarne uno?»
“I would so love to have a child. Can you tell me where to find one?”
The fairy gives her a barley grain, a small seed.
“This is different from the grains in the fields,” she explains. “Put it in a flowerpot and see what happens.”
The woman thanks her and pays twelve shillings for the grain.
