Într-o țară îndepărtată trăia un rege cu unsprezece fii și o fiică pe nume Eliza. Prinții învățau repede și citeau foarte bine. Eliza avea o carte frumoasă, plină de desene. Copiii trăiau fericiți la palat.
In a faraway country, a king lived with his eleven sons and a daughter named Eliza. The princes learned quickly and read very well. Eliza had a beautiful book full of pictures. The children lived happily in the palace.
Dar tatăl lor s-a căsătorit cu o regină rea, care a devenit mama lor vitregă. Ea nu îi iubea deloc. Chiar după nuntă, în timp ce copiii se jucau, nu le-a dat prăjiturile și merele obișnuite. Le-a pus nisip într-o ceașcă și le-a spus să se prefacă că era prăjitură.
But their father married an evil queen, who became their stepmother. She did not love them at all. Right after the wedding, while the children were playing, she did not give them their usual cakes and apples. She put sand in a cup and told them to pretend it was cake.
