A mother's last promise

English translation

The wife of a rich man was very ill. She knew she would not live much longer and called her only daughter to her bedside.

English translation

“Dear child, be good and believe in God,” she said. “Then God will always protect you. I will watch over you from heaven and be close to you.”

English translation

After that, she closed her eyes and died. The girl went to her mother’s grave every day and cried there. She stayed good and continued to believe in God. In winter, snow lay on the grave. When the snow melted again in spring, her father had married another woman.
