The Philistines gathered their armies at Socoh in the land of Judah, preparing for war. They camped between Socoh and Azekah, at Ephes-dammim.
Regele Saul și bărbații lui Israel s-au strâns în valea Ela, unde și-au așezat tabăra și s-au pregătit să-i înfrunte. Cele două armate ocupau munții de o parte și de alta a văii: filistenii pe un munte, israeliții pe celălalt. Între ei se întindea valea.
King Saul and his men of Israel gathered in the Valley of Elah, where they camped and prepared to face the Philistines. The two armies occupied the mountains on either side of the valley: the Philistines on one mountain, the Israelites on the other. The valley stretched between them.
