Die Philister sammelten ihre Truppen zum Kampf. Sie versammelten sich bei Socho in Juda und errichteten ihr Lager in Efes-Dammim, zwischen Socho und Aseka. Auch König Saul rief die Männer Israels zusammen. Sie schlugen ihr Lager im Terebinthental auf und machten sich für die Schlacht gegen die Philister bereit.
English translation
The Philistines mustered their troops for battle. They gathered at Socoh in Judah and set up their camp at Ephes-dammim, between Socoh and Azekah. King Saul also called the men of Israel together. They camped in the Valley of Elah and prepared for battle against the Philistines.

Die beiden Heere standen sich auf zwei Bergen gegenüber: auf der einen Seite die Philister, auf der anderen die Israeliten. Zwischen ihnen lag das Tal.

The two armies faced each other on two hills: the Philistines on one side and the Israelites on the other. The valley lay between them.
