Lauda morarului
The miller's boast
English translation
Once upon a time, there was a poor miller who had a beautiful daughter. One day, he had to go and speak to the king. To make himself seem more important, the miller told him:
“I have a daughter who can spin straw into gold.”
English translation
“I’m very fond of that kind of skill,” the king replied. “If your daughter is as skilled as you say, bring her to my palace tomorrow. I want to see what she can do.”
