Haren pralede over for de andre dyr. »Ingen har nogensinde vundet over mig, når jeg løber så hurtigt, jeg kan. Hvem vil løbe om kap med mig?«
The hare boasted to the other animals. “No one has ever beaten me when I run as fast as I can. Who wants to race me?”
»Det vil jeg,« sagde skildpadden stille.
“I do,” said the tortoise quietly.
Haren kaldte det en vittighed og sagde, at han kunne danse rundt om skildpadden hele vejen.
The hare called it a joke and said he could dance around the tortoise the whole way.
»Vent med at prale, til du har vundet over mig,« sagde skildpadden.
“Wait until you’ve beaten me before you boast,” said the tortoise.
Da banen var valgt, begyndte løbet.
