Scene 1 · Beginner
One day, the hare told the other animals how fast she could run. She said that no one could beat her in a race.
— Quem quer correr comigo? — perguntou a lebre.
“Who wants to race me?” the hare asked.
— Eu aceito — disse a tartaruga, com calma.
“I accept,” said the tortoise calmly.
A lebre riu.
The hare laughed. To her, the idea of racing against the tortoise was a joke.
— Primeiro você precisa me vencer. — Vamos correr?
“First you have to beat me. Then you can say you’re that fast,” the tortoise replied. “Shall we race?”
After they chose the race route, the hare and the tortoise started running.
