“My dear child, be good and faithful to God,” she said. “Then God will always protect you. I’ll watch over you from heaven and stay close to you.”

She closed her eyes and died. Every day, her daughter visited her grave and cried, but she remained good and faithful. Winter came and covered the grave with a white blanket of snow. By the time the spring sunshine had melted it away, the girl’s father had married again.
