A última promessa de uma mãe
A mother's last promise
English translation
A rich man’s wife fell ill. Realizing she was close to death, she called her only daughter to her bedside and said:
“My darling, keep being kind and having faith in God. Then the good Lord will always protect you. I’ll watch over you from heaven and stay close by.”
English translation
After saying these words, she closed her eyes and died. The daughter went to her mother’s grave every day to cry, but she continued to be kind and faithful to God, as her mother had asked.
English translation
In winter, snow covered the grave like a white sheet. When the spring sun melted the snow, the girl’s father had already married another woman.
