Żona pewnego bogatego człowieka ciężko zachorowała. Kiedy poczuła, że zbliża się śmierć, przywołała do łóżka swoją jedyną córkę.
The wife of a rich man fell seriously ill. When she felt that death was near, she called her only daughter to her bedside.
– Drogie dziecko, bądź dobra i pobożna, a dobry Bóg zawsze będzie cię chronił. Ja będę patrzeć na ciebie z nieba i pozostanę przy tobie.
“Dear child, be good and devout, and God will always protect you. I will watch over you from heaven and stay by your side.”
Po tych słowach zamknęła oczy i umarła. Dziewczyna codziennie odwiedzała grób matki i płakała. Mimo żalu nadal była dobra i pobożna.
After saying these words, she closed her eyes and died. The girl visited her mother’s grave every day and cried. Despite her grief, she remained good and devout.
Zimą grób przykrył śnieg, biały jak prześcieradło. Gdy wiosenne słońce stopiło śnieżną pokrywę, ojciec miał już nową żonę.
In winter, snow covered the grave like a white sheet. By the time the spring sun melted the blanket of snow, her father had a new wife.
