Scene 1 · Intermediate

Jonah runs away to Tarshish

English translation

God spoke to Jonah son of Amittai and gave him a mission: “Get up and go to Nineveh, the great city. Speak out against it, for the wickedness of its inhabitants has reached me.”

English translation

But instead of going to Nineveh, Jonah decided to flee to Tarshish, away from God's presence. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for Tarshish. He paid his fare and boarded it, intending to leave with the crew.
