English translation
King Darius appointed 120 governors. These men governed different parts of the kingdom. He put three leaders over them, and Daniel was one of the three. The governors reported their work to these leaders. This was how they were to make sure no harm came to the king.

English translation
Daniel was an especially good leader, and he did his work better than the others. So the king planned to put him in charge of the whole empire.
