Regele Darius a ales o sută douăzeci de guvernatori, adică oameni care conduceau diferite părți ale regatului. Trei oameni aveau grijă de munca acestor guvernatori. Unul dintre cei trei era Daniel. Guvernatorii trebuiau să le explice ce făceau, pentru ca regele să nu piardă nimic.
English translation
King Darius chose one hundred and twenty governors, meaning people who ruled different parts of the kingdom. Three people oversaw the governors’ work. Daniel was one of the three. The governors had to explain to them what they were doing, so the king would not suffer any losses.

Daniel avea calități deosebite și muncea mai bine decât ceilalți conducători. De aceea, regele se gândea să-l pună în fruntea întregului regat.
English translation
Daniel had exceptional qualities and worked better than the other leaders. So the king was thinking of putting him in charge of the whole kingdom.
