Il funerale della madre di Karen
Karen's mother's funeral
English translation
Once upon a time there was a poor girl named Karen. In summer she walked barefoot. In winter she wore heavy wooden shoes, which made her feet red.
English translation
The elderly wife of a shoemaker—a man who made shoes—lived in the village. The woman sewed Karen a pair of little shoes from some old red cloth. They weren’t very pretty, but the woman wanted to help her.
English translation
Karen wore the little shoes for the first time at her mother’s funeral. Red wasn’t suitable for a funeral, but she had no other shoes. So she walked behind her mother’s coffin with the red shoes on her feet.
