English translation
King Darius appointed 120 local governors to oversee different parts of the kingdom. Above them he placed three high officials—that is, three leaders to whom the governors had to report on their work. This way, the king would suffer no losses. One of the three was Daniel.

Daniel se remarca printre ceilalți dregători și printre guvernatori prin spiritul său deosebit. Îi întrecea pe toți, iar Darius se gândea să-i încredințeze conducerea întregului regat.
English translation
Daniel stood out among the other high officials and the governors because of his exceptional qualities. He surpassed them all, and Darius was thinking of putting him in charge of the whole kingdom.
