Царь Дарий назначил сто двадцать местных правителей, которые управляли разными частями его царства. Над ними он поставил трёх старших управителей. Одним из них был Даниил. Местные правители должны были отчитываться перед этими тремя управителями о своих делах, чтобы царь не терпел убытков.
English translation
King Darius appointed 120 local governors to rule different parts of his kingdom. Over them he placed three senior administrators. Daniel was one of them. The local governors were to report to these three administrators on their work so that the king would suffer no loss.

Благодаря своему необыкновенному духу Даниил превосходил и других старших управителей, и местных правителей. Поэтому Дарий задумал поставить его во главе всего царства.
English translation
Because of his extraordinary spirit, Daniel surpassed both the other senior administrators and the local governors. So Darius planned to put him in charge of the whole kingdom.
