The wicked stepmother

English translation

Far away, in the land where the swallows fly in winter, there lived a king with eleven sons and a daughter named Elisa. The princes went to school, each with a star on his chest and a sword at his side. They studied their lessons with ease and wrote with diamond styluses on golden tablets.

English translation

Elisa sat on a stool made of mirror glass and leafed through a picture book that had cost half a kingdom.

English translation

The children were happy until their father married again. The new queen disliked her stepchildren, and they noticed it the day after the wedding. While the festivities were going on at the palace, they pretended to receive guests.

English translation

They usually got leftover cakes and apples, but the queen handed them a teacup full of sand and told them to pretend it was cake.
