Scene 1 · Intermediate
Et ønske om et barn
A wish for a child
English translation
Once upon a time there was a woman who wanted a child with all her heart. When her wish didn’t come true, she went to see a fairy.
English translation
“I want a little child so much,” she said. “Do you know where I can find one?”
English translation
“We can easily arrange that,” replied the fairy. “Here’s a grain of barley. It’s a different kind from the barley that grows in the fields and that hens eat. Put it in a flowerpot and you’ll see what happens.”
Danish
Kvinden takkede og betalte feen tolv shilling for kornet.
English translation
The woman thanked the fairy and paid her twelve shillings for the grain.
