En längtan efter ett barn

A wish for a child

English translation

Once upon a time, there was a woman who had long wished for a child. When her wish still did not come true, she turned to a fairy.

English translation

“I would so love to have a little child,” she said. “Do you know where I can find one?”

English translation

“I'm sure we can arrange that,” said the fairy. “Here is a grain for you. It isn't the kind that grows in a farmer's field and that chickens eat. Plant it in a flowerpot, and you'll see what happens.”

English translation

The woman thanked the fairy and paid her twelve shillings for the grain.
