Marzenie o dziecku

A wish for a child

English translation

A woman had long dreamed of having a tiny child, but her wish still had not come true. At last, she went to a fairy.

English translation

“I would so love to have a tiny child. Could you tell me where I might find one?”

Polish

– To nietrudne – odpowiedziała wróżka. – Weź to ziarnko jęczmienia.

English translation

“That isn’t difficult,” replied the fairy. “Take this barley seed. It is different from the barley that grows in the fields and feeds the hens. Plant it in a pot and see what happens.”

Polish

Kobieta podziękowała i zapłaciła dwanaście szylingów, bo właśnie tyle kosztowało niezwykłe ziarnko.

English translation

The woman thanked her and paid twelve shillings, because that was exactly what the unusual seed cost.
