Scene 1 · Intermediate
Et ønske om et barn
A wish for a child
English translation
Once upon a time there was a woman who wanted a little child more than anything else. When her wish didn’t come true, she asked a fairy for help.
English translation
“I’d so love to have a little child,” she said. “Can you tell me where I can find one?”
English translation
“That’s easy to arrange,” the fairy replied. “Here’s a grain of barley. It’s a different kind from the barley that grows in the fields and that chickens eat. Plant it in a flowerpot and see what happens.”
Norwegian
Kvinnen takket og betalte feen tolv shilling for byggkornet.
English translation
The woman thanked the fairy and paid her twelve shillings for the grain of barley.
