Once upon a time, there was a woman who desperately wanted a child, but she couldn’t make her dream come true. At last, she went to a fairy and asked for help: “I would so love to have a little child! Can you tell me where I can find one?”
— Isso é fácil de resolver — respondeu a fada. — Leve este grão de cevada. Ele é diferente dos que crescem nos campos e servem de comida para as galinhas. Plante-o num vaso de flores e veja o que acontece.
“That’s easy to solve,” the fairy replied. “Take this barley grain. It’s different from the ones that grow in fields and are used as food for chickens. Plant it in a flowerpot and see what happens.”
— Obrigada — disse a mulher.
“Thank you,” the woman said.
