Vágy egy gyermek után

A wish for a child

Hungarian

Élt egyszer egy asszony, aki mindennél jobban vágyott egy kisgyermekre, de a kívánsága nem teljesült. Végül felkeresett egy tündért, és segítséget kért tőle.

English translation

Once there was a woman who longed for a little child more than anything, but her wish did not come true. At last she went to see a fairy and asked for help.

Hungarian

– Nagyon szeretnék egy kisgyermeket! Meg tudná mondani, hol találhatnék egyet?

English translation

“I would so love to have a little child! Could you tell me where I might find one?”

Hungarian

– Ezen könnyen segíthetünk – felelte a tündér. – Adok önnek egy árpaszemet. Ez azonban nem olyan, mint a földeken termő árpa, amellyel a tyúkokat etetik. Ültesse el egy virágcserépbe, és figyelje meg, mi történik!

English translation

“We can easily help with that,” replied the fairy. “I’ll give you a barley grain. But this isn’t like the barley that grows in fields and is fed to chickens. Plant it in a flowerpot and see what happens!”

Hungarian

– Köszönöm! – mondta az asszony.

English translation

“Thank you!” said the woman.

Hungarian

Az árpaszem tizenkét shillingbe került. Az asszony kifizette, majd hazavitte.

English translation

The barley grain cost twelve shillings. The woman paid for it and took it home.
