Scene 1 · Intermediate
A katona találkozik egy boszorkánnyal
The soldier meets a witch
Hungarian
Egy katona menetelt az országúton, egyenletesen lépve: bal, jobb, bal, jobb. A hátán hátizsákot vitt, az oldalán kard lógott. A háborúból tért vissza, és most hazafelé tartott.
English translation
A soldier marched along the highway, keeping a steady pace: left, right, left, right. He carried a backpack and wore a sword at his side. He was returning from the war and was now on his way home.
Hungarian
Útközben egy öreg boszorkány jött vele szembe. Rettenetesen nézett ki: az alsó ajka egészen a melléig lógott. Megállította a katonát.
English translation
On the way, an old witch came toward him. She looked terrible: her lower lip hung all the way down to her chest. She stopped the soldier.
Hungarian
– Jó estét, katona! Szép kardod van, és jó nagy hátizsákod. Látszik, hogy igazi katona vagy. Annyi pénzt kaphatsz, amennyit csak szeretnél!
English translation
“Good evening, soldier! You have a fine sword and a very large backpack. I can tell you’re a real soldier. You can have as much money as you like!”
Hungarian
– Köszönöm, vén boszorkány – válaszolta a katona.
English translation
“Thank you, old witch,” the soldier replied.
Hungarian
– Látod ott azt a nagy fát? – A boszorkány a mellettük álló fára mutatott. – Belül teljesen üres. Mássz fel a tetejére, ott találsz egy nyílást. Azon keresztül mélyen leereszkedhetsz a fa belsejébe. Kötelet kötök a derekadra, és ha felkiáltasz, visszahúzlak.
English translation
“Do you see that big tree over there?” The witch pointed to the tree beside them. “It’s completely hollow inside. Climb to the top, and you’ll find an opening there. You can climb down through it, deep into the tree. I’ll tie a rope around your waist, and when you call out, I’ll pull you back up.”
