Soldatul întâlnește o vrăjitoare
The soldier meets a witch
English translation
A soldier was returning home after the war. He marched along the main road, his pack on his back and his sword at his side: “Left, right; left, right.”
English translation
An old witch crossed his path. She looked terrifying, and her lower lip hung down to her chest. She stopped in front of him and said:
“Good evening, soldier! What a beautiful sword you have, and what a big pack! Anyone can see you’re a real soldier. Well, you’ll have as much money as you want.”
Romanian
— Mulțumesc, bătrână vrăjitoare, a răspuns el.
English translation
“Thank you, old witch,” he replied.
English translation
The witch showed him a big tree beside the road.
English translation
“Do you see it? It’s hollow inside. If you climb to the top, you’ll find a hole you can climb down through, deep inside it. I’ll tie a rope around your body, and when you call to me, I’ll pull you back up.”
