Soldaten møter en heks
The soldier meets a witch
English translation
A soldier marched along the country road. “Left, right! Left, right!” He was on his way home from the war, with his backpack on his back and his sword at his hip.
English translation
Along the way he met a frightening-looking old witch. Her lower lip hung all the way down to her chest.
English translation
She stopped in front of him and said, “Good evening, soldier! With such a fine sword and such a big backpack, you must be a real soldier. Now you can have as much money as you want.”
English translation
“Thank you, old witch,” said the soldier.
English translation
The witch pointed to the large tree beside them. “It’s hollow inside. Climb all the way to the top and you’ll find a hole you can lower yourself through. I’ll tie a rope around your waist. When you call out, I’ll pull you back up.”
