Tak zaczęły się dzieje nieba i ziemi, które stworzył Bóg. Gdy uczynił ziemię i niebo, na ziemi nie było jeszcze roślin polnych ani polnego ziela. Bóg nie zesłał bowiem deszczu, a człowiek, który mógłby uprawiać ziemię, jeszcze nie istniał. Z ziemi unosiła się jednak mgła i nawadniała całą jej powierzchnię.

This is how the story of the heavens and the earth, which the LORD God created, began. When he made the earth and the heavens, there were no plants of the field or other field vegetation yet. For the LORD God had not sent rain, and there was no man yet who could cultivate the ground. But mist rose from the ground and watered its whole surface.

Wtedy Bóg ukształtował z prochu ziemi człowieka, Adama. Tchnął w jego nozdrza życie i w ten sposób człowiek stał się żywą istotą.

Then the LORD God formed a man, Adam, from the dust of the ground. He breathed life into his nostrils, and in this way the man became a living being.
