God forms Adam from dust

Så börjar berättelsen om hur himlen och jorden kom till, när Gud skapade dem. På jorden hade inga växter ännu börjat gro, eftersom Gud inte hade låtit det regna. Det fanns heller ingen människa som kunde odla marken. Däremot steg en dimma upp ur jorden och fuktade hela marken.

So begins the story of how heaven and earth came to be, when God created them. No plants had yet begun to grow on the earth, because God had not sent any rain. There was also no one to cultivate the ground. Instead, a mist rose from the earth and moistened the whole surface of the ground.

Gud formade mannen Adam av stoft, det fina dammet från marken. Han blåste in liv i Adams näsborrar, och Adam blev en levande människa.

God formed the man Adam from dust, the fine powder found on the ground. He breathed life into Adam’s nostrils, and Adam became a living human being.
