Aceasta este istoria începuturilor cerului și pământului, din vremea când Dumnezeu le-a creat. Pe câmp nu crescuse încă nicio plantă și nu încolțise iarba, pentru că Dumnezeu nu trimisese încă ploaie. Nu exista niciun om care să lucreze pământul. Totuși, din pământ se ridica o ceață care îi umezea întreaga suprafață.

This is the story of the beginnings of heaven and earth, from the time when God created them. No plant had yet grown in the field, and no grass had sprouted, because God had not yet sent rain. There was no one to work the ground. Yet a mist rose from the ground and watered its entire surface.

Dumnezeu l-a format pe om, pe Adam, din țărâna pământului. Apoi i-a suflat în nări suflarea de viață, iar omul a devenit o ființă vie.

God formed the man, Adam, from the dust of the ground. Then he breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being.
