De ezel vertrekt naar Bremen

The donkey leaves for Bremen

English translation

A man had a donkey who had carried sacks of grain to the mill for years without ever seeming tired. But as the donkey grew older, he lost his strength and could do his work less and less well. His master began to wonder how he could stop paying for the donkey’s feed.

English translation

The donkey sensed that he was in danger. He ran away and set off for Bremen. “I’m sure I can become a town musician there,” he thought.
