Um homem tinha um burro que, durante muitos anos, havia carregado sem descanso os sacos de grãos até o moinho. Com o tempo, porém, o animal foi perdendo as forças e já não conseguia trabalhar como antes. Seu dono começou a pensar em como se livrar da despesa de alimentá-lo.
English translation
A man had a donkey that had carried sacks of grain to the mill without resting for many years. Over time, however, the animal grew weaker and could no longer work as before. The donkey’s owner began thinking about how to get rid of the expense of feeding him.

O burro percebeu o perigo e fugiu. Pegou a estrada para Bremen, pensando: “Lá eu com certeza posso me tornar músico da cidade.”
English translation
The donkey sensed the danger and ran away. He set off along the road to Bremen, thinking, “I can surely become a town musician there.”
