For many years, a donkey had worked faithfully for his master, carrying sacks of corn to the mill. Now his strength was fading, and he was finding the work harder and harder. His master began to wonder how he could avoid the expense of feeding an animal that could no longer do its job.
Sensing danger, the donkey ran away and took the road to Bremen. “I’m sure I can become a town musician there,” he thought.
