Scene 1 · Intermediate

Măgarul pleacă spre Bremen

The donkey leaves for Bremen

English translation

A man had a donkey that had carried sacks of grain to the mill without rest for years. Over time, however, the animal began to grow weaker, and it found it harder and harder to work. Its master was already thinking about how to get rid of the expense of feeding it.

English translation

Feeling that he was in danger, the donkey ran away and set off for Bremen. “There,” he told himself, “I could surely become a town musician.”
