Scene 1 · Beginner
Het tinnen soldaatje met één been
The one-legged tin soldier
English translation
Once upon a time, there were twenty-five tin soldiers. They were all made from the same old tin spoon, so they were brothers. They wore red-and-blue uniforms, with rifles resting on their shoulders.
English translation
A little boy got the soldiers for his birthday. When the box was opened, he clapped his hands happily. “Tin soldiers!” he cried. He put them on the table.
English translation
All the soldiers looked alike, except for one. That soldier had only one leg. He had been made last, and there wasn’t enough tin left for a second leg. Still, he stood firmly on his one leg.
