Der einbeinige Zinnsoldat

The one-legged tin soldier

English translation

A little boy received a box of twenty-five tin soldiers for his birthday. All the soldiers had been made from the same old tin spoon. That made them brothers. They wore red and blue uniforms and held their rifles on their shoulders.

English translation

When the lid of the box opened, the boy clapped his hands with joy. “Tin soldiers!” he cried, and set them on the table.

English translation

Almost all the soldiers looked alike. Only one had just one leg. He had been made last, and there wasn’t enough tin left for his second leg. Even so, he stood steadily on his one leg.
