Il soldatino con una gamba sola

The one-legged tin soldier

English translation

A boy receives a box of twenty-five tin soldiers for his birthday. They are all brothers because they are made from the tin of the same old spoon. They wear red and blue uniforms and carry their rifles over their shoulders.

Italian

Eppure riesce a stare in piedi senza cadere.

English translation

When he opens the box, the boy claps his hands with joy. Then he puts the soldiers on the table. They are all alike, except for one who has only one leg. He is the last soldier made from the spoon, and there wasn’t enough tin to make his other leg too. Even so, he can stand without falling over.
