Ένας στρατιώτης γύριζε στο σπίτι του μετά τον πόλεμο. Περπατούσε στον δρόμο με το σακίδιό του στην πλάτη και το σπαθί του στο πλευρό.
A soldier was returning home after the war. He walked along the road with his backpack on his back and his sword at his side.
Στον δρόμο συνάντησε μια γριά μάγισσα που έμοιαζε πολύ τρομακτική. Εκείνη τον χαιρέτησε και του είπε ότι μπορούσε να αποκτήσει πολλά χρήματα. Ύστερα του έδειξε ένα μεγάλο δέντρο.
On the road he met an old witch who looked very frightening. She greeted him and told him he could get a lot of money. Then she pointed out a large tree.
«Το δέντρο είναι άδειο από μέσα», του είπε. «Αν σκαρφαλώσεις ως την κορυφή, θα βρεις μια τρύπα. Από εκεί μπορείς να κατέβεις βαθιά μέσα στο δέντρο. Θα σου δέσω ένα σκοινί γύρω από το σώμα και θα σε τραβήξω έξω όταν με φωνάξεις».
“The tree is hollow inside,” she told him. “If you climb to the top, you will find a hole. From there you can climb deep down inside the tree. I’ll tie a rope around your body and pull you out when you call me.”
