Scene 1 · Beginner
Soldaten möter en häxa
The soldier meets a witch
English translation
A soldier was walking along the road with a bag on his back and a sword at his side. He had been at war and was on his way home. On the road, he met an old witch. Her lower lip hung all the way down to her chest.
English translation
“Good evening, soldier,” said the witch. “I can give you as much money as you want.”
English translation
The soldier thanked her, and the witch pointed to a large tree. The tree was hollow, and there was a hole at the very top. She asked the soldier to climb up and make his way down through the hole with a rope around him. When he called out, she would pull him back up.
