Scene 1 · Beginner

Una bambina scalza nella neve

A barefoot girl in the snow

Italian

È l'ultima sera dell'anno. Fa molto freddo, è quasi buio e cade tanta neve.

English translation

It’s the last evening of the year. It’s very cold, it’s almost dark, and a lot of snow is falling. A poor little girl walks through the streets with no hat on and bare feet. When she left home, she was wearing her mother’s slippers, but they were too big for her. She lost them as she ran to avoid two carriages rushing past.

English translation

She couldn’t find one slipper; a boy took the other and ran away.
