A barefoot girl in the snow

English translation

It was the last evening of the year. It was already getting dark, and a lot of snow was falling. A poor girl walked through the cold streets without a hat and barefoot.

English translation

When she left home, she was still wearing slippers. They had belonged to her mother and were much too big. Two carriages came racing toward her in the street. She darted aside and lost both slippers. She couldn’t find one of them again. A boy picked up the other and ran off with it.
