Dawno temu żył król, który miał kilka pięknych córek. Najmłodsza z nich była najpiękniejsza. Obok zamku rósł duży, ciemny las. Pod starą lipą w lesie była studnia.
Long ago, there lived a king who had several beautiful daughters. The youngest was the most beautiful of them all. Beside the castle grew a large, dark forest. Beneath an old linden tree in the forest was a well.
W gorące dni królewna lubiła tam chodzić. Siadała przy studni, gdzie było chłodno. Gdy się nudziła, bawiła się złotą kulą: podrzucała ją i łapała. Była to jej ulubiona zabawka.
On hot days, the princess liked to go there. She sat by the well, where it was cool. When she got bored, she played with a golden ball, tossing it up and catching it. It was her favorite toy.
