W dawnych czasach, kiedy życzenia jeszcze się spełniały, żył król, który miał kilka pięknych córek. Najmłodsza była tak niezwykle piękna, że nawet słońce, choć tyle już widziało, dziwiło się za każdym razem, gdy oświetlało jej twarz.
Long ago, when wishes still came true, there lived a king who had several beautiful daughters. The youngest was so extraordinarily beautiful that even the sun, which had seen so much, marveled every time it lit her face.
Tuż obok zamku rozciągał się wielki, ciemny las. Pod starą lipą znajdowała się tam studnia. W upalne dni królewna chodziła do lasu i siadała przy chłodnej studni. Kiedy zaczynała się nudzić, wyjmowała złotą kulę, podrzucała ją wysoko i łapała. Ze wszystkich swoich zabawek tę lubiła najbardziej.
Right next to the castle stretched a great, dark forest. Beneath an old linden tree stood a well. On hot days, the princess went into the forest and sat beside the cool well. When she began to feel bored, she took out a golden ball, tossed it high into the air, and caught it. Of all her toys, it was her favorite.
