Era verão, e um gafanhoto pulava e cantava em um campo. Uma formiga passou por ele, carregando com muito esforço uma espiga de cereal para o formigueiro.
It was summer, and a grasshopper hopped and sang in a field. An ant passed by, carrying an ear of grain to the anthill with great effort.
— Por que você não vem conversar comigo? — perguntou o gafanhoto. — Você trabalha tanto!
“Why don’t you come and talk with me?” the grasshopper asked. “You work so hard!”
— Estou ajudando a guardar comida para o inverno — respondeu a formiga. — Você também deve fazer isso.
“I’m helping store food for the winter,” the ant replied. “You should do that too.”
O gafanhoto não achava necessário se preocupar com o inverno, pois naquele momento havia muita comida. A formiga seguiu seu caminho e continuou trabalhando.
The grasshopper didn’t think it was necessary to worry about winter, since there was plenty of food at that moment. The ant went on her way and kept working.
