Scene 1 · Beginner

Kejseren elsker nyt tøj

The emperor loves new clothes

English translation

Many years ago, there lived an emperor who loved new clothes. He spent all his money on them. He had no interest in his soldiers or the theater. What he liked best was going for a ride in his carriage and showing off his new clothes. He had a coat for every hour of the day.

English translation

When someone asked where the emperor was, the answer was often, “He’s in the room where he changes his clothes.”
