Scene 1 · Beginner

L’empereur aime les habits neufs

The emperor loves new clothes

English translation

Long ago, an emperor loved new clothes so much that he spent all his money on them. He always wanted to be well dressed. He wasn’t interested in his soldiers or the theater. He went out in his carriage mainly to show off his new outfits.

English translation

He had a jacket for every hour of the day. People didn’t say he was working; they said he was in his dressing room, the room where he kept his clothes.
