Scene 1 · Intermediate

Kejseren elsker nyt tøj

The emperor loves new clothes

English translation

Many years ago there lived an emperor who cared so much about his clothes that he spent all his money on new outfits. He barely gave his soldiers a thought, and the theater bored him. But he loved riding through the city in his carriage so everyone could see what he was wearing.

Danish

Her lød svaret i stedet: »Kejseren er i sit påklædningsværelse.«

English translation

He had a coat for every single hour of the day. If you went looking for a king, you were usually told he was in his study. Here, the answer was instead, “The emperor is in his dressing room.”
