Das bunte Gewand
The coat of many colors
English translation
Jacob was also called Israel. He lived with his family in the land of Canaan, where his father had lived before him. His son Joseph was seventeen years old. He watched the family’s animals together with his brothers. Some of these brothers were the sons of Jacob’s wives Bilhah and Zilpah. Joseph told his father bad things about them.
English translation
Jacob loved Joseph more than his other children because Joseph had been born when Jacob was already old. He had a colorful robe made for him. The brothers realized that their father loved Joseph more than them. So they hated Joseph and stopped speaking kindly to him.
