Scene 1 · Intermediate

The donkey leaves for Bremen

English translation

A man had a donkey that had carried sacks of grain to the mill tirelessly for many years. In time, however, the donkey began to lose his strength and found it increasingly difficult to work. His master then began to think about how he could free himself of the expense of feeding him.

English translation

The donkey realized he was in danger, ran away, and set out for Bremen.

English translation

“I will surely be able to become a town musician there,” he thought.
